Serve in worship
Acolytes
Children and youth who are age 7 or older assist in the traditional worship service as acolytes on a rotating schedule. They wear robes and lead the processional and recessional. They light the candles on the altar at the beginning of the service and then carry the light of Jesus out at the conclusion of our service. Experience is not necessary. We will train anyone who is interested.
Altar Guild
Members of the Altar Guild prepare the altar in the Sanctuary for worship services by caring for and placing the linens, polishing brass, and cleaning candelabra.
Praise Band and Sanctuary Choir
The Praise Band leads worship at the 9:30 am service. We sing contemporary Christian popular music and always welcome new instrumentalists and singers. For more information, visit the Praise Band page.
The Sanctuary Choir sings every Sunday at the 11 am worship service. We sing all styles from Renaissance motets to spirituals to large classical works. Singers of every level are always welcome to join. Rehearsal is Thursday night in the choir room from 7:00 – 8:30 PM. For more information, visit the Sanctuary Choir page.
Communion Stewards
The main responsibility of the Communion Stewards is to prepare and remove the elements (bread & juice) that are used for Communion.
Flower Guild
Flowers for all worship services are purchased and arranged by members of the Flower Guild. Members also do arrangements for weddings, funerals and special events for a reasonable charge. Anyone who is interested can join – no experience necessary. Contact: Mary Alice Gray, Margaret Weller or Mary Reed.
Lay Readers
Lay readers are volunteers who are trained to assist in worship by reading prayers and scripture.
Ushers
A team of ushers and greeters at each service welcomes worshippers on Sunday, assists anyone needing directions or physical assistance, and collects the offering.
Tech Team
Both services need people to monitor the sound board and advance slides. The 11:00 am service also needs people to work the livestream. Contact the church office (office@chevychaseumc.org) for more information.
